| Dasher | Domestic short hair | | | Find Out More +/-
|
Meet Dasher! He is a 15-week-old kitten looking for a forever home. All gray with green eyes, this little man is quite the charmer and always on the move! He loves his siblings and thrives on human affection. However, Dasher and his siblings are Feline Leukemia (FeLV) positive. This means that he will have to be the only kitty in the house, unless the others are also FeLV positive, as it is contagious to other cats. While life spans vary for cats afflicted with this disease, they can still make wonderful companions. Would you consider giving Dasher his chance at a home? If so, come visit him at the shelter. He’ll be that gray blur of fur playing in the cage!
Some common concerns about FeLV…..
How long can I expect my FeLV-infected cat to live?
It is impossible to accurately predict the life expectancy of a cat infected with FeLV. With appropriate care and under ideal conditions, infected cats can remain in apparent good health for many months, although most succumb to a FeLV-related disease within two or three years after becoming infected. If your cat has already experienced one or more severe illnesses as a result of FeLV infection, or if persistent fever, weight loss, or cancer is present, a much shorter survival time can be expected.
How is FeLV spread? Cats persistently infected with FeLV serve as sources of infection. Virus is shed in very high quantities in saliva and nasal secretions, but also in urine, feces, and milk from infected cats. Cat-to-cat transfer of virus may occur from a bite wound, during mutual grooming, and (though rarely) through the shared use of litter boxes and feeding dishes. Transmission can also take place from an infected mother cat to her kittens, either before they are born or while they are nursing. FeLV doesn't survive long outside a cat's body—probably less than a few hours under normal household conditions.

| Fuzzy | Himalayan-Declawed | | Spayed/Neutered: Y Shots: Y | | Find Out More +/-
|
Fuzzy is a four to five year old purebred Himalayan that was turned loose into a neighborhood to fend for himself over two years ago. As time progressed he became more and more aloof towards people and avoided all human contact. One of our volunteers started feeding him about a year ago and over the winter he came every night and stayed in their heated greenhouse. She supplied him with food and water but could never get near him. About three months ago, he started coming around earlier in the evenings and she would sit outside with him as she fed him his dinner. Over time, he started to trust her enough that she could pet him.
Fuzzy was a complete and total mess. His fur was one giant matted mess. She could not tell if he was a male or a female because of the matts and mess around his tail and back legs. Each night she would try and trim his fur a little bit more but soon realized that it was a bigger job than she could manage. She finally was able to pick him up and take him to a vet (which he hated) to be completely examined and cleaned up. Fuzzy was almost completely shaved except for his paws and head and underneath all the matts, fur and dirt, he is actually a small boy. Some spots the fur was so matted and so close to his skin, his skin was torn when he was being shaved and he had to have stitches. The vet determined that Fuzzy is a four to five year old declawed male and believes he is a purebred lilac point himalayan. He has beautiful light blue eyes and crazy crooked whiskers which go in every direction. He is also front paw declawed. In spite of all the trauma he has endured, he has remained very loving to his foster caretakers.
Fuzzy has been tested for FIV and FeLK, had his vaccinations and given his one year rabies shot. His fur is starting to grow back in and he is a very handsome boy. He is starting to get really frisky and more comfortable in the house. He plays with the other resident cats and is becoming more affectionate each day. He loves to get in their laps every chance he gets and follows them all over the house.
Our hope is to find someone who will love him and keep him inside for the rest of his life. After the two plus years he was left to fend for himself this guy deserves a good loving home. You can see by his pictures how good looking he is and if you would like to see his before and after pictures or want more information, please contact Sandy Swanson at sandyswanson@sbcglobal.net or 440-759-1990.

| Pookie | DLH-Persian Mix | | Spayed/Neutered: Y Shots: Y | | Find Out More +/-
|
Pookie is a beautiful, long-haired, champagne colored, senior cat, approx. 11 yrs. old. When Pookie breathes it sounds as though she is suffering from a kitty cold, in reality she has had some damage to her nose at some prior point in her life and now has a little “smashed” nose that makes her consistently sound as though she is congested! She doesn’t seem to have any trouble breathing though. Pookie is very sweet and loves to be brushed and petted. Please visit Pookie today!
